Redbirds Blanked 1-0

On Hardee's Bruce Sutter Bobblehead Giveaway Night, the Tulsa Drillers and Springfield Cardinals put forth the kind of pitching performance that the Hall of Famer would be proud of. The Tulsa Drillers got the only run of the game in the seventh, as they blanked the Cards by a score of 1-0 on Saturday night at Hammons Field.

Tulsa starter Brandon Durden (6-2) turned in 7 1/3 scoreless innings to get his sixth win since joining Tulsa.

Springfield starter Nick Additon was outstanding in his first home appearance since coming up from Palm Beach of the Florida State League. Additon carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, until Jeff Kindel's two-out single to right field broke up the no-no.

In the seventh, Additon allowed a lead-off single to Cole Garner. After retiring Mike McKenry, Additon allowed an RBI double to Ryan Harvey, plating Garner all the way from first base for the game's only run.

Additon (1-2) was removed after allowing just one run on four hits over 6 2/3 innings. Casey Mulligan came on and finished the seventh, then worked a scoreless eighth to keep it at a one-run deficit.

Trailing 1-0 in the eighth, the Cards got a lead-off single by Pete Kozma. After Donovan Solano's sacrifice bunt moved Kozma to second, Durden left the game, giving way to Edgmer Escalona. After retiring Aaron Luna, Escalona walked pinch-hitter Tyler Henley. But with two on and two away, Jim Rapoport grounded back to the hill to end the threat.

Andrew Johnston recorded his league-leading 28th save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Cards (19-22, 55-52) will send Brandon Dickson to the mound on Sunday, as he takes on Chaz Roe at 6:10pm.

The Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest will be in town on Sunday afternoon. Beginning at 3pm, fans can enjoy more than 20 different attractions in front of Hammons Field, including the Best Buy Mobile Video Game Arcade, a Minor League Baseball Museum, bounce houses, batting and pitching cages and more. The Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest runs from 3pm to 6pm, with the Cards and Drillers meeting at 6:10pm.
