Eastern League playoff procedures

ELIGIBLE CLUBS

The top two clubs in each Division shall be eligible to compete in the Eastern League playoffs. Playoff eligibility is determined by the won-loss record of each team. In the event a club has played a different number of games, due to postponement or other reasons, standings will be determined by won-loss record, with no regard to winning percentage.

TIEBREAKERS

In the case of ties the following tiebreakers shall be used:

  • 1) In the event of a tie for first place, both teams shall make the playoffs, home field advantage shall be determined by the following tiebreakers, considered in the order in which they are listed:

         1) Head to head record versus the tied team(s)
         2) Runs scored versus the tied team(s)
         3) Intra-division record
         4) coin flip

  • 2) In the event of a two-way tie for second place, the team that qualifies for the playoffs will be determined using the following tie breakers, considered in the order in which they are listed:

         1) Head to head record versus the tied team(s)
         2) Runs scored versus the tied team(s)
         3) Intra-division record
         4) coin flip

  • 3) If three or more teams tie for first place, the tiebreakers listed in Section 1 shall be utilized to determine the first-place team. In the event of a tie for first place among three teams, the second-place team is to be determined from a tie between the two remaining teams by the tiebreaking system listed in Section 2. If the tie for second place is among three or more teams the tiebreaking system listed in Section 1 shall determine the second place team. In the event of three-way ties, computation of the applicable tiebreakers will be determined by utilizing the aggregate record of one individual team versus the other two teams the tie involves.
