John Hopkins
Carolina League

John has been president of the Carolina League since 1984. He has worked in Minor League Baseball since 1978, when he joined the Shelby Reds of the Western Carolinas League (WCL) on a part-time basis. A year later, John became assistant general manager of the WCL Greensboro (N.C.) Hornets. From 1982-84, he served as the Hornets general manager, before assuming his current role as Carolina League president.

John graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975 with a degree in Journalism. He was a newspaper editor for three years in Shelby, N.C., prior to beginning his baseball executive career.

John still lives in his native Greensboro with his wife of nearly 30 years, Dru. They have two adult daughters.
